The Emu is the world’s second largest bird, second to only the ostrich. Emus are prevalent across most of Australia’s island, though they avoid large towns, thick forests, and deserts. When moving towards better food and water resources, emus can form huge migratory flocks. Emus migrate north in the summer, and southwest in the winter. There are two versions of the Emu Silver Coin minted by the Perth Mint. This version of the Emu Coin is minted as a proof coin. Proof coins are minted in comparatively small amounts and have a more reflective look compared to traditional BU coins. The coins can also be struck with significant force or even struck more than once to ensure a distinct design. Due to the extra care given to striking the coin, there will be more details in the design and the field area of the coin will appear smoother than a standard BU coin. These Silver Emu Proof Coins will have a very limited mintage of just 3,000 coins. They are minted using .9999 fine silver and each coin will presented in a classic textured gray display case and a colorfully illustrated box, accompanied by a numbered Certificate of Authenticity.
